CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets, language used to describe how an HTML document should be formatted. CSS is a simple mechanism for adding style like fonts, colors, spacing, to Web documents. CSS, a method of coding that allows users to define how certain HTML, DHTML, or XML structural elements, such as paragraphs and headings, should be displayed using style rules instead of additional markup.

CSS are classified by various sources such as:

  • Author styles: information provided by the web page author, in the form of external style sheets, embedded style, and with inline styles etc.
  • User style: is considered as a local CSS-file precise by the user using the web browser, and acting as an override, to be applied to all documents.
  • User agent style: is the default style sheet applied by the user agent.
