The memory may be of two types one being the primary memory which is fast, volatile and very much needed for the computer. With out the primary memory the computer can’t even boot. The example of which is RAM- Random Access Memory.

The other one is the secondary memory which is permanent & is non volatile. The example of which is a hard drive or a compact disc, floppy disc, pen drives etc. This is slow as compared to the primary memory. The system can boot with out this memory but this is a major requirement in the computer.
