M-commerce is applied for mobile devices to communicate, inform, transact and entertain using text and data connecting to public and private networks. There is no exact definition for mobile commerce as every analyst, vendor and trade magazine appears to have a slightly different interpretation of the term. M-commerce or mobile commerce stands for electronic commerce made through mobile devices. M-commerce was started in 1990 during the dot-com boom. M-commerce made highly profitable through the broadband mobile telephony provided by 2.5G and 3G cell phone services was one of the main reasons for hundreds of billions of dollars in licensing fees paid by European telecommunications companies for UMTS and other 3G licenses. M-commerce is mainly used for sale of mobile phone ring-tones and games and is increasingly used to enable payments for location-based services such as maps, as well as video and audio content, including full length music tracks.
