Sound CardThe Sound Card is usually used in the PCI expansion slots to enhance the quality of sound the computer system produces. The Sound Card is a hardware device that needs to be placed in the motherboard. For all hardware device there needs to be software that should support that hardware. This is called as the driver program. The sound drivers should be properly installed. The driver accesses the sound board and provides installation and configuration of the waveform audio sound players. The sequencer driver is a one that provides installation and configuration of the MIDI devices. This provides support for the both internal sound cards and the external MIDI synthesizers. MIDI Mapper driver enables the user to reconfigure the mapping of a MIDI device’s instruments. The Sound card is also called as the sound board or the audio adapter. The sound card drivers in the case of newer versions of the operating system are automatically installed. But if the earlier versions are installed then the drivers needs to be manually installed. A sound card generally consists of the sound chip that can perform the function of converting waveforms from digital to analog format. The sound card by definition means that it can input or output sound under the control of a software program. This sound card’s functionality is that it converts the recorded or digital waveforms of sound into analog format. These signals are then led to a connector. There is a cable that connects to an amplifier or a similar sound destination like the high power speakers or the subwoofers can be connected in the computer. Typically a sound card can be called as an adapter board which interprets a sound file’s data that is audible through the speakers. Some earlier motherboards didn’t had the feature of multimedia hence in such systems the sound card was a compulsion. But these days the motherboard comes along with the built in sound and graphics over the motherboard itself. And also the plugging of a sound card enhances the sound in such systems. |
