Printers

Printer is connected to a computer via a 36 pin flat ribbon cable that carries signals from computer to printer and vice-verse. Through this connection computer sends. Control commands and data to be printed to the printer. In response to the command issued by the computer, the printer also sends its response indicating whether it is obeying the commands or not because it is already busy with printing. Sometimes printer may have to inform its status like busy or free, or any error condition sensed or atleast while printing if paper is exhausted, to the computer.

Printer’s electronic circuit decodes the commands sent by the computer for printing operation. Further it generates necessary control signal in-turn, to involve and initiate the print mechanism to print data received from the computer. It also sends back timely response and status of printing operation to computer.

The different types of printer are:

  • Character printer
  • Line printer
  • Dot matrix printer
  • Daisy wheel printer
  • Laser printer
  • Golf ball printer
  • Thermal printer
  • Inkjet printer
