Hard Disk Drive Configuration and InstallationWhenever a new hard drive is brought for the purpose of installation the concept of static electricity should be evaluated and fairly reviewed as well. The next step is to arm one self with the manual that is provided with the hard disk drive. The hard disk manual provides sufficient guide for the purpose of installation and configuration. Next consider CMOS setup or the BIOS configuration to check whether the hard disk is in the order of any boot up device. Then as this is first time configuration so never make the first boot device as the hard drive. Instead the first boot devices should be either floppy drive or the CD ROM device so that any specific floppy or CD ROM provided by the manufacturer for the purpose can be useful. More over one should verify the condition where in the hard disk is single or more than one drives are being connected to the same system. At least one hard disk should be made a master and the other the slave. This is important as the system may not be able to understand as to give the priority to which of the hard disks if they are more than one. For this there exist the jumper settings that make the hard drive to be master or slave and any other configuration that may exist for that drive. This makes the task much simpler for the system to distinguish between the master and the slave hard drives. Next is the step that involves the file system to be set up for the hard drive. The file system is of important as it reflects the type of operating system that can have much preference over it. The next factor is that of the cable connections. Make appropriate cable connections may be that of the bus connections. There always is a slot for the hard disk in the motherboard. All one has to do is to identify the right one. Make the power supply available in appropriate denominations. Usually a device driver floppy disk or a CD ROM is supplied by the manufacturer with the hard drive. Hence use it to boot the computer and start the installations. |
