Digital Versatile Disk DVDThe DVD was actually introduced as the technology for the movies in order to increase the quality of the video and enhance the graphics capability and the size of the disk. Hence the abbreviation was Digital Video Disk. But as the time advanced its use was also incorporated in the usage of computers and the data was used to be stored on the disk. Hence the abbreviation was slightly modified as the following like Digital Versatile Disk. Since this could be used to store any type of data. The DVD is an extension of CD-that is the Compact Disk. The CD has the size of about 800MB to the maximum. But the DVD has the memory size of about a maximum of 40 Giga bytes. As the advancement in the technology increases the memory may be still increased. The major advantage is take it is physically of the same size as that of the CD but has much more capacity for storing the data in terms of memory. It has the maximum access speed of 1.3 to 1.7 mega bytes per second and even more as the days pass on. DVD is available in many formats like DVD +R, DVD –R, DVD +RW, DVD –RW, DVD Ram etc and stills many more. The optical technology has advanced in this era and a even new one is taking shape in to existence like BD which stands for Blu-ray Disk. |
