The driver is software that helps to utilize the software to the fullest extent. The driver programs are usually difficult to code and involve a great deal of knowledge. The driver is necessary for any kind of hardware.

The driver written for one hardware device cannot be used for the other hardware device. Usually the new and modern operating system does not require the driver to be installed manually.

Whenever the installation is done for the operating system the driver is taken up by it automatically. The purpose of installing a driver is to make use of the hardware device. The driver are available for the following devices like sound driver for the purpose of sound in the computer and the video display driver for the purpose of getting the videos best displayed over the screen.

Some different types of drivers are like the driver for the lan cards and the modem devices, the devices like the printers, scanners and the fax machines. Sometime even the driver is required for the keyboard and the mouse for which the installation may be necessary sometime.
