What do mean by DATA?

DATA in general refers to the raw facts gathered from different sources. These raw facts are not organized or not even defined. Information usually implies data that is organized and is meaningful to the person who is receiving it. Data gets transformed into information by data processing.

Data Processing

Data processing basically refers to gathering, manipulating and subsequently discriminating data to achieve certain specified objectives, which can be effectively utilized for various purposes.

Manual Data Processing

Data processing by human being without the assistance of a machine is termed as Manual Data Processing. It is a conventional data processing method which may not require extraordinary capabilities except basic arithmetic manipulation knowledge and some simple mathematical skills to solve complex equations.

Electronic Data Processing

For high speed data processing is electronic data processing (EDP). In which electronic machines assist and undertake data processing task. Electronic Data Processing involve the use of electronic digital computer.

Electronic Data Processing involve the use of electronic computer. Either the manual data processing is assisted by computers or the data processing is completely undertaken by the computer. In the former case the person may use electronic calculator or small micro computer at intermediate stages of computation to arrive at the results quickly. The computer may be partially used.

Where as in the latter case, problem that involve massive data processing is entrusted to computer such that computer is programmed to do each and every aspects of data processing Electronic Data Processing in a true sense employ the computer to collect and store large amount of data to be processed. Further the computer manipulated the stored voluminous data by applying classical arithmetic operations, sorting, searching operations there by producing the required results or information that can be used for various purposes like decision taking, transport control, industry management to schedule the timings of an event etc.

3) Real-time processing
4) Distributed data processing
