Basic Data Types

In today’s communication, calculations analysis is of two basic types of data namely

1. Numbers and

2. Characters.

The numbers are usually decimal numbers used for mathematical calculations, coding such as 150, 20,028 and may be decimal numbers with fractions like 1.50, 50.11 60.23 etc. such numbers are processed using arithmetic operations like add, subtract, multiple and divide etc. therefore 2 values or numbers participate in an arithmetic add operation, to produce a new value or number known as sum of the operation.

Similarly we are using character type of data to address by name etc., characters include letter (A to Z) and special symbol like ?, !, ;, :, -,$, *, +, etc., are used for specific purpose. Here the characters may be processed as string, i.e., a name consisting of group of characters called string for eg. COMPUTER, HARDWARE, LIGATURESOFT etc., and store them in its memory whose marks card of first year diploma have to be printed. These names are termed as string of character to be processed by a computer.
