CD ROM Burner

The CD burner is a device that will record the data or any type of information over an empty optical compact disk. There is also the CD Rom device which only does the job to read the compact disk.

The CD Rom is an optical disk. The maximum possible memory that can be stored up in an empty device is about 800 mega bytes. The CD burner comes along with the set of a serial bus that can be connected to the system and also there will be a driver software which can be used to burn the Rom. The example for this software is Nero burning Rom.

The empty disks that are to be burned come in two types one is CD Rom that can be burned only once and the other one is CD-RW or the rewritable. The advantage is that it can be erased and again burned. This makes it reusable. This device is mostly used to back up data on the disk.

This device also has the maximum speed with which it can be burned for example 32X, 48X, etc. The maximum is the speed of 52X. The CD burner can be used to even burn the disks in the VCD format or that of the format that is compatible with the Television. Also there are many options to burn it in the given format like mp3, wav etc.

CD ROM Burner Configuration and Installation

The CD-ROM configuration and installation comprises of the following things that are explained below. First take the cover out and fix it in the case at the appropriate places with the screws. Then the bus needs to be connected to the IDE-2 in the motherboard. Usually the hard drive is connected on the IDE-1.

If the bus provides the support to connect to more than one device that is the hard drive and the CD Rom are connected through the same bus then only IDE-1 can be used the other one like the IDE-2 can be left free. Now the jumper settings should clearly specify which one of the following is the master drive and which one is the slave.

To avoid confusion for the computer the there should be a clear distinction between the two drives those are hard drive and the CD Rom. The jumpers are located at the rear end of the device.

After the configuration of these devices is complete then there comes the need for the installation of these devices using their respective drivers. There will be specific software that is called as the device driver program which helps in the installation of the device. This is to make it compatible with the system. The device driver program software is usually written in system programming language.

Same is the case with the floppy drive that is connected to the system. This usually does not require any driver but in some operating system it needs to be mounted, Linux or unix operating system. Even in these operating systems the CD Rom has to be mounted as well. In the windows operating system they are detected by default.
