BUS

Many wires are required to establish the necessary connections. A group of wires that connect several devices is called a bus. In addition to the wires that carry the data, the computer must have some lines for addressing and control purposes.

The main buses used in the computer are three types they are:

  • Address bus
  • Data Bus
  • Control bus

Address bus:

The address bus is a group of lines which are unidirectional, means that bits flow in one direction from the CPU to peripheral devices. The CPU used the address bus to identify a peripheral from which it devices to access information.

Data Bus:

The data bus is a group of lines used for data flow which are bi-directional means that the data can flow in both the direction between, the CPU and the peripherals. The contents of the addressed device or memory location are transferred to the processor over the data bus.

Control bus:

The control bus carry synchronization signals. It is used for transmitting and receiving signals between the processor and various devices.
