Basic Input Output System BIOSBIOS is an acronym for Basic Input Output System that is a program embedded in a small memory chip that is usually a flash memory. This flash memory can be upgrade via software. The primary function of BIOS is to provide the interface between the operating system and the hardware. It is used to boot a computer or in other words to start a computer. When the power is switched on the first program to be called is from the bios. The bio also detects and displays the information about the hardware devices that are plugged to the computer system. It a also displays the configuration settings like selecting he primary boot device, enabling virus warning, shared memory for videos and the type of hardware devices that are connected to the system. The bios configuration utility helps the user to easily select the desired options. The bios configuration contains Advanced BIOS Settings – Virus Program, Cache, Quick POST, Boot Sequence, boot bios shadow, CPU serial number etc. It also contains many advanced chipset settings – like chipset special features, L2 cache size, DRAM frequency, AGP Mode etc. It also options like Power Management, and many functions in the Integrated Peripherals section like the following like IDE ports, serial & parallel ports, Expansion card h/w etc. PnP/PCI Configuration is also present here. It also has options for frequency voltage control and the options for changing the passwords. |
