AGP is the abbreviation for Accelerated Graphics Port. This port has a much better performance than that of the regular PCI. It can be considered as about 4 times much faster than the PCI. This is the performance because of the reason that it has pipelined requests.

The AGP can be considered as the IO bus port. It is found in many high-end computers. This port contains an inbuilt RAM. It is much widely used for the purpose of 3D imaging. This results in excellent high quality graphics. The performance also increases the credibility of videos.

This card was first designed for the Pentium II based systems. The job of the AGP card is to transfer data with high speed by sitting in between the mother board and the monitor.

This is a high speed 32 bit port. This port is launched by Intel Corporation. Usually there is slot in the motherboard over which this has to be plugged. Presently there is only one AGP slot in the motherboard available these days. AGP card is much better as compared to the usual PCI slots. This slot is brown in cover unlike the PCI slot which is white in the color.

There are different types of AGP cards available which depends upon the speed of AGP card like that of 1x, 2x, and presently available up to 4x speed. Usually 1x AGP card provides a speed of 264 Mega bytes per second in terms of data transfer rate. So when the calculation exceeds then the data transfer rate for 4x speed is 2 giga bytes per second.

The Accelerated Graphics Port is also called as Advanced Graphics Port. This helps to a great extent in increasing the 3 Dimensional Graphics performance of the system. There is a high end quality of the videos which are run on a system having an AGP card. The AGP card also comes along with the major features of in built RAM that is a primary memory. This even adds up to the memory of the system to increase the functionality of the existing RAM.

The RAM here may offer much different size in memory like starting from 8MB to as higher as 1GB and all. Hence the AGP card is a boom for the users who would like to upgrade their PC’s for the reason to gain performance for the system. The software which necessarily requires support for the 3 Dimensional Graphics is much easily used by the application of AGP card.
